Though it is not heading towards any particular star, in about 40,000 years, it will pass within 1.6 light-years of the star Gliese 445, which is at present in the constellation Camelopardalis and 17.1 light-years from Earth. That star is generally moving towards the Solar System at about 119 km/s (430,000 km/h; 270,000 mph).
Using optical and ultraviolet observations from several instruments, the duo has pinpointed what might be the farthest star spectroscopically observed — at a dizzying 55 million light-years away. The distant star is a compact source illustriously named SDSS J122952.66+112227.8, a bright bluish blob in the clumpy, 55,000-light-year-long gas tail of the galaxy IC 3418.
Nasa's Hubble Space Telescope has discovered the farthest individual star ever seen - an enormous blue stellar body nicknamed Icarus located over halfway across the universe. The star, harboured in a very distant spiral galaxy, is so far away that its light has taken nine billion years to reach Earth. Icarus, is the farthest individual star ever seen. It is only visible because it is being magnified by the gravity of a massive galaxy cluster, located about 5 billion light-years from Earth, it sits between Earth and the galaxy that contains the distant star. It had been conjectured that the fixed stars were much farther away than the planets.

The star (left) is indicated by the blue arrow; the spiral galaxy host is seen twice due to multiple lensing by the cluster MACS J1149. The supernova (nicknamed "Refsdal") is labeled as well. The star didn't appear in a Hubble image from 2011 (top right), but was in another taken in 2016 (bottom right). 2017-01-11 2018-04-03 This close-up view shows the galaxy MACS0647-JD, the farthest object yet known, as it appears through a gravitational lens imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. The galaxy is 13.3 billion Hope you will enjoy the video about space facts !! This is about MACS J1149 Lensed Star 1 locally known as Icarus Star discovered by Austrounmer Patric Kelly Ignoring occasional flare-ups such as supernovas, the farthest star we can reliably see with the naked eye is the obscure V762 Cassiopeiae, which is just visible under dark skies and is around 16,300 light years away.
Se hela listan på scienceabc.com NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft just took the farthest-ever images from Earth, breaking an earlier record set by Voyager 1’s “Pale Blue Dot” image taken almost exactly 28 years ago. Topic: deep space The center manages many of NASA's Earth observation, astronomy, blocks, look into the farthest reaches of space, and untangle the mysteries of our own image of the star V838 Monocerotis and surrounding dusty cloud structures.
Unfortunately, since the question didn't mention "Earth-like" and since we don't know the direction of the Star Wars galaxy for sure, it could be a different planet in our star system. Actually, even if we did know the direction it could still change based on planetary orbits. – user11521 Jun 29 '15 at 5:22

CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list Taken on December 5, 2017, New Horizons image of the open star cluster NGC 3532 (also commonly known as the Football Cluster or the Wishing Well Cluster) became the farthest image ever made by any spacecraft, breaking a 27-year record set by Voyager 1. But for a very short time! The objects in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field may well be the farthest known objects, but there are other contenders. They include a galaxy called Abell 1835 IR1916, which was discovered in 2004, by astronomers from the European Southern Observatory using a near-infrared instrument on the Very Large Telescope.
But the reasons we don’t know are fascinating. The problem with the expansion of the universe is that it tends to leave light behind.
